There’s a Usability conference coming up in San Francisco from June 19-24. Interesting topics about how to make your web sites more usable.
Jakob Nielsen, author of Designing Web Usability, will be presenting. Sounds like a few of us from work should check it out!

I saw this thing and absolutely had to post it. It’s a little early to be thinking about gifts for next Christmas, but you can never start early enough.
For the aspiring doctors and medical field practitioners, this is for you - the Digital Rectal Examination simulator. If you have to practice this medical [...]

Nike Change in Leadership

by Gee Why on January 23, 2006

in Uncategorized

The Tabasco Man passed along this article from Forbes magazine about Nike replacing its recently appointed CEO, Bill Perez. Perez was hand picked by Chairman Phil Knight and was on the job for only one year. He resigned due to disagreeing views of Nike’s long-term growth.
I don’t remember where I read about Perez, [...]

Pictures from Lost in Mililani

by Gee Why on January 23, 2006

in LOST

Got a few pictures of Josh Holloway while Lost was filming in Mililani Mauka.
Heard he was a cool dude and took lots of pictures with the fans who were waiting. Glad he doesn’t hold a grudge against Hawaii after being robbed at home and all.

What I Saw on Saturday

by Gee Why on January 22, 2006

in Uncategorized

Running errands on Saturday, this is some of the things I saw.
I did NOT see the new Air Max 360 at FootLocker. Supposedly their shipment didn’t come in for the big January 21 release date. Strange for such a big chain not to get these in. Personally, I think they’re delaying these [...]

I’m a Bloggie Panelist!

by Gee Why on January 21, 2006

in Uncategorized

Earlier in the month, the Weblog “Bloggie” Awards nomination process for 2006 was announced. People could nominate their favorite blogs in various categories.
While I had a feeling that my favorite sites wouldn’t make the cut, I signed up as a volunteer panelist to judge nominated blogs, and hey, I got chosen! I had [...]

Hypebeast is thinking that the Hawaii Islands Dunks will be released mid February. If you want them now, you got to go to Australia.
Pricing, especially here in Hawaii, will be outrageous. More than $200? Possibly.

Yes, Dancing with the Stars has its own Podcast. Judge Len Goodman explains various dances each week for your dancing education. The Podcasts are even RSS-enabled for easy updates. Scary!
The host of the show, Tom Bergeron, obviously doesn’t know what a Podcast is when he commented that you can watch the Podcast. [...]

Running Pet Peeve

by Gee Why on January 20, 2006

in Uncategorized

As part of my home workout routine, I’ve been running in the neighborhood and hate it when people hog the sidewalk. People walking side by side don’t move to give me a passing lane or some people simply walk right in the middle of the sidewalk.
Right now, I run around them on the grass [...]

The latest in the Nike Air Max line, the Air Max 360, is releasing on January 21. This hyped shoe costs $160 and is supposed to be exempt from promotions and sales.
$160 without any discounts is pretty steep. The Air Max 95 and Air Max 2006 (pictured below) are looking pretty good now.

How Many Starbucks on Oahu?

by Gee Why on January 19, 2006

in starbucks

I’m not as smart as this guy’s Starbucks Center of Gravity, so I just looked up the number of Starbucks we have in Hawaii, specifically on Oahu.
If I count correctly, there are 38 Oahu locations you can get your caffeine fix at!
Here’s the general breakdown:

Honolulu 15
Leeward 11
Waikiki 9
Windward 3
Kalihi 0

Okay, okay, I added that Kalihi [...]

I swear I didn’t write this post on Slashdot about out of hand info security at work.
What is the right balance between security and productivity, in the corporate IT environment? Looking back at my company, 10 years ago, our machines were connected directly to the Internet, no proxy, no firewall, no antivirus software. Today, my [...]

Workstyle of Gen Xers

by Gee Why on January 17, 2006

Fortune magazine has an article about what Generation X workers want at work. Some interesting observations are made:
The top three things they want in a job, we found, are positive relationships with colleagues, interesting work, and continuous opportunities for learning…
Recognition scored very low, and power and prestige ranked dead last.
Also, check out Fortune’s 2006 [...]
