There were some interesting changes on this week’s episode of Top Chef. Episode 10, Chef Overboard, saw Casey win her first elimination challenge and bulldog Howie packing his knives.
What was interesting though was the change in demeanor in Howie and Hung, and more importantly, how they both got reprimanded. Howie’s penalty was, of [...]

The Restaurant Wars rematch on Top Chef gave Restaurant April and Quatre (formerly the Garage) a chance to fix their miscues. While both teams showed vast improvements, Quatre really had their act together becoming the victorious Bad News Bears.
For the team’s success, Quatre’s executive chef, Sara M, won her first Elimination Challenge. This [...]

Now that the eye candy is being eliminated from Top Chef, it’s coming down to the real skills of the competition. But, in Episode 8: Restaurant Wars, all the chefs ran into problems opening up their teams’ restaurants. For the judges’ decision, it was a simple matter of who sucked less. In [...]

I Have a Weak Mind

by Gee Why on August 10, 2007

in Addiction, Passion, top chef

I admit that I have a weak mind and can easily be influenced by television advertisements. After watching guest judge Rocco DiSpirito peddle Bertolli frozen dinners in Top Chef Episode 6: Freezer Burn, I succumbed and bought the Italian Sausage and Rigatoni (on sale at Don Quijote this week).
The promise of these Bertolli meals [...]

Don’t just call him Ladies Love Cool Tre yet, but the judges of Top Chef loved Tre’s work on Episode 7: Guilty Pleasures. Tre’s contribution to Team Black was the bacon wrapped shrimp with grilled corn and white cheddar cheese grits. That and showing off his guns while cooking in the kitchen.
On the [...]

After last night’s new episode of Top Chef, I remember why I like watching this show. There’s excitement, creativity, teamwork, passion, and conflict all jammed into one hour. What more can you ask for?
The Quick Fire challenge of identifying ingredients and cooking instruments was pretty funny. Reminded me of Season 1 when [...]

With some time off recently, I got the chance to catch up with Season 3 of Bravo’s Top Chef. I completely missed Season 2 of the series where chefs go through various, entertaining, and tough challenges to be named Top Chef.
Season 3 is only 5 episodes in so if you haven’t watched before, it’s [...]

Just a little more proof that blog searching sites like Technorati work. Yesterday, Pulpconnection received 142 hits, a record high. The main draw was the post about the Top Chef finale and most of the hits funneled through Technorati.
In a typical day, Pulpconnection gets about 30 hits. I made the Top Chef [...]

Just one last tidbit from the Top Chef finals. Here are the results from my unofficial, on-line poll of who will be Top Chef.
Even in this poll, Harold was the clear favorite. I started the poll before part one of the final competition so Dave Martin was a valid choice.
Thanks to everyone who [...]

I’m only a fair-weather Lost follower but did watch the taped season finale (since Top Chef was ending). Some answers were finally provided but of course, more mysteries arose. Pushing that darn button every 108 minutes actually does something and isn’t just a psych experiment. If you don’t reset the timer, Magneto [...]

And your American Idol is Taylor Hicks! The reason the plane crashed on the island is… Sorry, from the powerhouse finales on Wednesday night, the big news was Harold Dieterle, the self-described “cook,” won the Top Chef competition. The final elimination featured an all out five-course meal for the judges without any gimmicks. [...]

My on-line poll of “Who Will Be Top Chef?” is still open for votes. Here’s the current tally. The choice is now between Harold and Tiffani, so make your pick of who will be Top Chef come Wednesday’s finale.

Who will be crowned Top Chef?

Harold Dieterle. Silent, confident, and skilled.

Tiffani Faison. Ambitious and determined.

Dave [...]

It is what it isn’t on Part 1 of the Finals of Top Chef. I can’t believe Dave Martin was eliminated in the QuickFire, leaving Harold and Tiffani. It just didn’t make sense.
I purposely haven’t read the judges’ blogs (yet) to understand their decision. Given the criteria for the elimination, Dave seemed [...]

The Top Chef finals in Las Vegas are coming up so who do you think will become the Top Chef?

Who will be crowned Top Chef?

Harold Dieterle. Silent, confident, and skilled.

Tiffani Faison. Ambitious and determined.

Dave Martin. Emotional and passionate about the craft.

Who cares? Didn’t you hear Britney Spears has another bun in [...]

What a surprise in Top Chef Episode 9, Napa’s Finest. In the last round before the finals, frontrunner (and only Asian) Lee Anne Wong was eliminated leaving Harold, Tiffani, and Dave. Dave cried his way to the finals, Harold’s stomach curdled his way in, and Tiffani crassed herself to Vegas, leaving Lee Anne [...]

Been watching a lot of Bravo’s reality TV show to find America’s next Top Chef, and it’s really entertaining. Who knew a cooking show could be so fun to watch?
Each week the chefs have a challenge to perform with interesting twists to test not only their cooking abilities but their teamwork and creativity. [...]
